RELIGIOUS LEADERS INTERVENE TO RESOLVE POLITICAL CRISIS

Religious leaders including Venerable Ittapane Dhammalank­ara Thera and Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith have met President Maithripal­a Sirisena in a bid to resolve the present political crisis through a dialogue of all political parties.

Cardinal Ranjith in a statement said he together with Venerable Ittapane Dhammalank­ara Thera had met President Sirisena on Friday.

He has mentioned in his statement that Chairman of Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya was also at President’s office at that time but they did not confer with him. “We did not confer with the Chairman of Election Commission as we only wanted to meet President Sirisena,” he said.
