Hit and run auto driver apprehended

A trishaw driver who hit and ran a motorcycle ridden by a woman with her three children near the Polonnaruwa New Town on Saturday evening was taken into custody by the police.

The woman and the three children had been admitted to Polonnaruwa Hospital with injuries following the accident.

The trishaw driver who sped without stopping had been pursued and caught by a group of bystanders and handed over to the police.

Polonnaruwa Police conducting inquiries found the driver was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident.
