Drug seller with 3500 mgs of heroin arrested in Kataragama

A team of officers belonging to Antivice Squad Unit of Hambantota led by ASP Sanath Amarasingh­e had arrested a heroin seller with 3500 milligrams of heroin when he was selling heroin in a trishaw during a raid carried out in Nagaha Street in Kataragama. This suspect had been handed over to Kataragama police by this unit.

This unit said it has been revealed that the suspect was an active member of United National Party (UNP) and he has contested as a UNP candidate for the past Local Government Election.an officer in charge of the Unit said that he had been engaged in this business for a long time and four petitions had been sent to Tangalla SP and Hambantota ASP saying that he was given preferenti­al treatment by Kataragama police ignoring his nefarious activities. In addition to the packets of heroin recovered from his trishaw, a stock of heroin had been recovered from his house in Nagaha Street.the suspect and his trishaw arrested by the Unit had been produced before Tissamahar­ama Acting Magistrate P.a.jayasiri and was remanded for 14 days.
