Worlds End - Special programme for protection

The Horton Plains National Park will implement a special programme to protect local and foreign tourists who visit World’s End tourist destinatio­n situated within the national park.

Warden of the Horton Plains National Park, Pradeep Kumara said the Wild Life Department has paid its attention with the instructio­ns of the Wild Life Director General and the Assistant Wild Life Director General in the Central Province due to the death of a female German tourist who fell down from World’s End while she tried to take a selfie.

According to him, steps would be taken to exhibit notice boards in several languages showing the dangerous situation of World’s End and to keep a wild life officer in the observatio­n centre. The tourist guides have been instructed to accompany the tourist while visiting the place. In addition, a leaflet giving instructio­ns to teachers who come with school children for their protection when they visit this place.

The park warden added that attention has been drawn to construct a protective net close to the place from where the German woman had fallen.
