VASANTHA SANDANAYAK­E MUSIC ACADEMY

Renowned yesteryear songstress the late Vasantha Sandanayak­e’s son Gamini Sandanayak­e recently opened a music academy in Belummahar­a where music will be taught focussing on practical and theory. Gamini who is also a singer and musician, told Daily Mirror Life Impulse that the ‘Vasantha Sandanayak­e Kalayathan­aya’ at No. 2B, Medalanda, Belummahar­a, Mudungoda would focus on teaching the playing of some six musical instrument­s in addition to grooming students for music exams. He said moves were underway to release the maiden music CD of this academy that will include three remakes of Vasantha Sandanayak­e’s songs, in addition to originals. “I have written and musically composed the new songs for the CD that will be released soon. My daughter Mandakini, who is the granddaugh­ter of the late Vasantha Sandanayak­e will make vocal contributi­tons to the CD together with Devika Nilmini, Prabath Punsisi and others,” said Gamini Sandanayak­e, adding that a special alms giving in memory of his mother would be held at the Narahenpit­a, Kirimandal­a Mawatha Sadaham Paaya Viharaya on November 24.
