GUNASENA GALAPPATTY
The 33rd death anniversary of celebrated dramatist Gunasena Galappatty falls on November 27. Galappatty, born on June 7, 1927 in Dickwella was also a Sinhala radio playwright. Having studied at Dickwella Central College and Matara Rahula College, he entered the Peradeniya University in 1952. There he associated with veterans like Prof. Ediriweera Sarachchandra and Charles Silva. His first production was a folk drama titled “Sandakinduru” in 1957 in which he blended folk drama and modern Sinhala music.
