We’re ready for a lawful general election: Lalkantha
I am in favour of the no-faith motion
JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha said yesterday his party was ready for a general election if it were declared lawfully. He told Daily Mirror that Parliament should pass a resolution with a twothirds majority to hold such an election.
“If it happens that way, we will agree,” he said.
When asked whether the formation of the new government should be undone as a pre-condition Mr. Lalkantha said, “There is nothing like that. We are ready if and when a general election is lawfully declared,”
He quashed rumours that he had disagreed with the JVP’S decision to support the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“It is a fabricated story aimed at mudslinging.the party has taken a decision in favour of democracy and we stand by it,” Mr. Lalkantha said.
