Three suspects in the shooting at the Jaffna High Court Judge granted bail
The three suspects who were held in custody over the shooting at former Jaffna High Court Judge Mankkavasagar Illancheliyan, were ordered to be released on bail by the Jaffna High Court Judge Annalingam Premachandran on Monday.
During this shooting on 22nd July 2017 near the Nallur Kovil police sergeant H.G. Hemachandra who was providing security to the High Court Judge Illancheliyan was killed and another police officer was injured.three suspects were arrested by the police and on the orders of the courts they were remanded and bail was refused to them. When this case was taken up for hearing recently the attorneys representing the suspects informed courts that the suspects had been under remand custody for 16 months and therefore to consider granting them bail.
The High Court Judge Premachandran who considered this submission, ordered the suspects to be released on cash bail of Rs 200,000 each and surety bail of Rs 500,000 each. The Judge also ordered the Passports of the suspects to be impounded and to present themselves at the Jaffna High Court on every Thursday and place their signatures as proof of attendance.
