MUSICAL EVENING
The Sri Lanka UK Society presented a musical evening with Barbara Segal and Menaka Singers Opera Ensemble at Westminster House recently. The High Commissioner James Dauris and Helen are always most supportive and generously lend their home for such events which involves fellowship and friendship.
They love music, and James is a good singer having sung with choirs in the UK. It was good to see so many young performers who are interested in learning opera which will enhance their knowledge of music and famous musicians; it is good for their cultural development.
They took us through the music of Mozart, Strauss, Lehar, Victor Herbert, Puccini, Gilbert and Sullivan, Verdi, Gounod and a couple of others including The Barber of Seville. Barbara Segal also sang solo. The young singers, pupils of Menaka, who are coached by Barbara too were Nishantha Warnakulasuriya, Rachel Halliday, Ravindu, Jehani Gamalathge, Emesh Wijewardene, Hiruni Perera, Nishantha and Samanthi Liyagage. The welcome address was by Premilla Paulraj, President SLUKS and the vote of thanks by Suhashini Victoria, secretary SLUKS.
