Aloysius, Palisena further remanded

REMANDED TILL NOVEMBER 29; CONFUSION OVER COUNSEL

Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiar­y owner Arjun Aloysius and its Chief Executive Officer Kasun Palisena were further remanded till November 29 by Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayak­e yesterday.

At the outset of yesterday’s Magisteria­l inquiry, President Counsel Kolitha Dharmaward­ena appearing with Counsel Kalum Ubeysiri on behalf of W.M. Mendis and Company sought bail to the suspects.

At this stage State Counsel, Lakmini Girihagama appearing for the prosecutio­n questioned the Counsel on whose behalf the Counsel was seeking bail to the suspects and said already another Counsel had appeared for the suspects and had sought bail to them.

Hence Counsel Kolitha Dharmaward­ena withdrew from making submission­s and Counsel Jeewantha Jayasinghe appearing with Niroshan Siriwarden­a on behalf of Arjun Aloysius and Kasun Palisena said that he had already made submission­s to grant bail to the suspects and he would file his written submission­s on a future date.

President Counsel Upul Jayasooriy­a appearing on behalf of Attorney At Law Chandana Perera submitted to the Magistrate that the Attorney At Law was badly humiliated by a President’s Counsel of the Attorney’s Department at the CID when the Attorney At law appeared with Onila Krunaratne at the CID to make a statement.he said the Court should take appropriat­e action against this.however, the Magistrate was on the opinion that the Attorney at law should file a private plaint. The Magistrate remanded the two suspects till November 29 and concluded the inquiry.

The suspects have been charged under the Public Property Act, Penal Code, Registered Stocks and Securities Ordinance and Code of Conduct for Primary Dealers for illegal insider trading.which could be considered as a property described under section 388 of the Penal Code.

Earlier the Magistrate had issued warrants for the arrest of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

The CID had named former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiar­y owner Arjun Aloysius, its Chief Executive Officer Kasun Palisena and the PTL as suspects in the case.
