- BY LAHIRU POTHMULLA

The Government yesterday condemned the statements allegedly made by UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake with regard to the composition of the Supreme Court’s proposed full judge bench, which would hear the Fundamental Rights petitions filed against the dissolution of Parliament. Government MP John Seneviratne said MP Ramanayake had said during a TV programme that the full judge bench would be comprised of five Judges.

“Ranjan said three Judges would be on their side and two Judges on our side.this is a serious and a shameful statement.the people expect the Judiciary to be independent and unbiased.the MP’S statement would erode the faith the people have placed on the system,” he told a news briefing. He said he was not certain whether MP Ramanayake’s statement was approved by the United National Party (UNP).

Meanwhile, MP Indika Anurudda said the entire country was waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling on December 7.

“If the Supreme Court reverses the dissolution of Parliament, Parliament will continue with brawls inside,” he said.
