Controlling noise pollution

Noise pollution is a huge problem in Sri Lanka and around the globe. Noise pollution can be defined as sounds that annoy and disturb. The situation in Sri Lanka is serious. You can go anywhere and you will be able to hear a vehicle tooting its horn, vendors shouting out their wares or mobile bakeries playing their signature tunes. There are many ways to control noise pollution. Authorities must take action against the offenders. A large scale reduction of noise pollution can be achieved by educating the general public about the effect of noise pollution. The simplest thing that we as fellow citizens can do is to reduce the noise we make every day. I think if my suggestions are put into action, we will see a huge difference. Likes and dislikes

People have different ideas and talents. They even like certain people over others. Their choices differ. When we had our school assembly, on the very first day of my new school, I went and stood in the third row next to a girl. The girl next to me smiled when I came close to her. This was my first friend. We talked to each other and very soon became best friends. When I met her first she was also a newcomer. We compared each other’s ideas and although we liked the same things, some ideas were different. She mostly liked red frocks which I hate; I always preferred pink ones. Now, we are good friends and sit next to each other even during assembly. At every break, we go down to our school ground after eating and play. I am good at sports but she is good only in studies. When we have free periods she teaches me, she is good at teaching others. I admire her and told her “one day you will become a teacher.” She prefers to teach Science because it is her favourite subject. During the interval we share our food and for fifteen minutes at the school grounds I teach her sports, especially Karate. I go for Karate classes while she goes for art classes. She will be my best friend forever. Hajira Jabir Hejaaz International School, Dehiwala

My last day in school

“School days are and will always be the favourite part of my childhood”. Most children would say that they disagree. But just wait till they say a final goodbye to it all! School has become an important part in my life as I not only learn new things but meet people and make new friends. In school we learn all the important qualities that we would need in the years to come. I admit that sometimes staying at home seems more fun than sitting at a desk in school. But to imagine a day without meeting my friends and seeing all my teachers seems boring. I know that the day I say goodbye to school is not in the too distant future. I always resolve to spend my all too short years in school productively so that I can look back and be grateful and not have regret. With time passing by so quickly the dreadful last day of school just comes closer and closer, but it isn’t all bad with the closing of the chapter in my life. My last day in school will always be sad. I would have to leave the fun that I had with my friends during the golden years of school. Aala Hannan Hejaaz International School, Dehiwala
