EVERYTHING THAT IS BEING CARRIED OUT BY THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION IS ILLEGAL WE WILL STOP CARRYING OUT ANY OF THESE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES

The United National Front (UNF) yesterday said it would kick off a civil disobedience campaign shortly in a bid to force President Maithripala Sirisena to allow them as the group that commands the majority in Parliament to constitute a proper government.

This was announced by several UNF members including MPS Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Harin Fernando, Mano Ganesan and Gayantha Karunatilleke at a media briefing last afternoon.

“We will begin a civil disobedience campaign to force the President to install a democratically elected government soon. Everything that is being carried out by the present administration is illegal and we will stop carrying out any of these illegal activities,” Dr. Senaratne said.

Mr. Karunatilleke and Mr. Ganesan called for a presidential election stating that it is the only election that could be conducted legally in January next year. “The only election that could be held legally is a presidential election. Therefore we urge President Sirisena to hold a presidential election and contest it himself so that he could find out whether the people approve of his actions in appointing a new PM or not,” Mr. Ganesan said.

The UNF said it will send its list of nominations to the Selections Committee shortly.
