ILLEGAL GOVERNANCE IS A VIOLATION OF LAW - UNP

- BY YOHAN PERERA

United National Party (UNP) yesterday charged that governing the country illegally is an offence under the Penal Code.

This was expressed by UNP MP Ajith P. Perera at a media briefing last evening.

“There is no government at the moment as the new administration formed on October 26, 2018, has been defeated in a no-confidence motion on November 14, 2018. This is now official as it is included in the official Parliament Hansard,” Mr. Perera said.

“One cannot claim to be the government after getting defeated in a NCM. If a group people are claiming that they are the government it is an offence under the penal code,” he added.

UNP MP Mujibur Rahaman who also attended the media briefing said UNP will surround Presidential Secretariat, President’s official residence and other important state establishments next week if a government is not instated legally by then. “Sri Lankans will experience a similar situation as the Philippines experienced under Ferdinand Marcos and what Bangladesh did under President Ershard soon,” he said.
