The Finance Ministry will grant a huge relief package to those in the agricultural sector today, MP Dullas Alahapperuma said in a news briefing at the Prime Minister’s office yesterday.

He said it would include tax relief and concessions which would be enjoyed by the farmers, entrepreneurs, investors and businessmen in the agricultural field.

“It would be a great benefit to the people who are involved in agricultural activities and will relieve their burden,” Alahapperuma said.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa said they had been able to do this because they had been able to satisfactorily tackle with the prevailing economic crisis despite the poor management of economy by the previous Government.

“Our Government has been able to reduce the prices of fuel thrice within this short period.

The previous Government also had the same opportunity, but they did not work in the interest of the people,” Weerawansa added.

He further said the relief package for agricultural sector would uplift the economy.

Meanwhile, State Minister of Finance Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said they had a good economic plane which would assist them to handle the economy amidst

rupee depreciation.
