121 MPS seek ‘Writ of Quo Warranto’ order

Saying new pm, cabinet illegal

- BY YOHAN PERERA

All 121 MPS who have opposed the new administration had filed a petition with the Appeal Court calling the courts to issue a ‘Writ of Quo Warranto,’ order stating that the new Prime Minister and the cabinet is illegal, UNP MP Ajith P. Perera said yesterday.

Mr. Perera told a media briefing that they decided to seek the intervention of judiciary as the hansard in Parliament had officially notified that the government has been defeated in a no confidence motion on November 14 2018.

“It has now become obvious that the new administration cannot function while the hansard in Parliament had made it official that it has been defeated in a no confidence motion and therefore the MPS have decided to ask the judiciary to intervene now and issue writ stating the new administration is illegal,” he said.

“We waited for the right time to go to courts and now we think time is right for it as defeat of the new government has become obvious and legal,” he added.

He said they will submit all details to present their case on Monday.
