MAHINDA YAPA PROPOSES TO CEDE POWER TO THE OPPOSITION
In response to Minister S.B. Dissanayake’s remarks that President Maithripala Sirisena would withdraw the gazette notification for the dissolution of Parliament, Government MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane told its parliamentary group yesterday that it would be better to cede power to the opposition if it was the case.
Mr.abeywardane told the group meeting that there was no use of clinging to power in this manner if the President intended to do so.
However, Mr. Dissanayake tried to correct the remarks made by him to the media the previous day.
“I did not try to mean that,” Mr. Dissanayake said.
Mr.abeywardane said his party could easily win an election and win parliamentary power.
“If the opposition insists on taking over power, let them have it,” he said.
