MINISTER INSTRUCTS
TO EXPEDITE CONSTRUCTION
Minister of Housing and Social Welfare Wimal Weerawansa has instructed to expedite the construction work of the Moratuwa Lunawa housing complex which was initiated in 2012 when he was the Housing Minister, after reviewing the progress of the construction work.
During the last few years work on the housing project has not been properly carried out and now the work should be expedited maintaining a high standard in order to vest the houses with the people, minister told the officials.
This housing complex which was started by the Urban Housing Development Authority to help solve the shortage of houses in urban areas and its construction was due to be completed by the end of 2015. However there were long delays in the past.
Lunawa Housing Complex consists of a community hall, shopping complex, pre-school and child care centre and several other features.
Located close to the railway station this housing scheme is more advantageous for its users as it is only one kilometre away from the Galle Road.
Construction work of the houses is done by the State Engineering Corporation on the instructions of the Urban Development Authority with the technology expertise provided by the State Development and Construction Corporation. While the estimated cost of the project is Rs.1296 million.
This is a 12 storey housing complex consisting of 356 housing units, with a floor area of 450 square feet each.
Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando, Deputy Mayor Samantha Silva, Municipal Member Suresh Indika , Chairman of NHDA Dr. Sumith Vanniarachchi and several officials were present during the visit.
