Accused indicted for rape of schoolgirl

An accused who stood indicted with rape of a schoolgirl was found guilty and sentenced to 15 year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.15000 by the Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Dhamith Thotawatte yesterday.

The accused Duwanderage Upul Jayaratne of Horana had on April 27, 2017 abducted and raped a schoolgirl at Horana.

He was sentenced to five year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 5000 under the first count and sentenced to ten year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.10,000 under the
