Accused indicted for rape of schoolgirl

An accused who stood indicted with rape of a schoolgirl was found guilty and sentenced to 15 year rigorous imprisonme­nt and fined Rs.15000 by the Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Dhamith Thotawatte yesterday.

The accused Duwanderag­e Upul Jayaratne of Horana had on April 27, 2017 abducted and raped a schoolgirl at Horana.

He was sentenced to five year rigorous imprisonme­nt and fined Rs. 5000 under the first count and sentenced to ten year rigorous imprisonme­nt and fined Rs.10,000 under the
