No special service to issue NICS this year for O/L: commissioner
The Department for Registration of Persons yesterday announced that no special service would be held for the issuing of identity cards for students who would be sitting for the Ordinary Level (O/L) examination this year.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror the Department’s Commissioner General Viyani Gunathilaka said more than 99 per cent of National Identity cards (NICS) were issued successfully.
“This year we have done a very quick service without delaying any NIC. 392,000 NICS out of 395,000 applicants which were received had been issued. The rest of the NICS will be issued as quickly as possible,” he said. The students who did not apply for their NICS still can send applications. Also those who received NICS with incorrect details can alter them on visiting the Department.
Students would be able to obtain their NICS under the One Day Service (ODS) or normal service.
