Several housing projects by the SLN Civil Engineerin­g Branch

On a Ministry of Defence directive the Sri Lanka Navy implemente­d several housing projects for the benefit of the Tri Forces personnel, who are in active service, those retired and for civilians. The Navy’s Civil Engineerin­g Branch has completed some of the projects with the beneficiar­ies are enjoying the facilities.

They contribute­d their labour to construct 83 houses -- 35 for Tri Forces personnel in the Ampara district under “Api Wenuven Api” housing project in 2017; 15 for Tri Forces personnel who were killed or disabled in humanitari­an operations. It was carried out under the “Api Wenuven Api” housing project in 2018; 14 for Naval personnel under “Viru Sumithuru” (fully built) housing project, three for Naval personnel under the “Viru Sumithuru”(partly built) housing project; nine Naval personnel under “Ranaviru Real Star V” housing project; three for Army personnel and three Naval personnel under Navy Welfare housing project.

The Navy has also undertaken the constructi­on of houses for people who lost their houses during the heavy rains in the Aranayake and Ahaliyagod­a areas. Twenty five houses have been handed over to the recipients.
