Moratuwa Uni and Colombo Uni win team c’ships
The University of Moratuwa and the University of Colombo bagged the men’s and women’s team championships at the Inter-university Invitation ‘Grip to Grip’ annual Carrom Championships held at the University of Kelaniya. The tournament was conducted by the Univeristy of Kelaniya.
Manuka Ashen (University of Moratuwa) and Lihini Perera (University of Colombo) both of whom had displayed excellent talent throughout the tournament were adjudged the best Men’s and Women’s Carrom players, respectively.
Perera won the Best Women’s Carrom Player for the third time. Whilst the Women’s Carrom Team of the University of Colombo won the Women’s Team Trophy for the third time. The Men’s Carrom Team of the University of Moratuwa won the Men’s Team Trophy for the second successive time.
At the awarding ceremony conducted at the end of the tournament, felicitation and souvenirs were awarded by the Physical Education Division of the University of Kelaniya to the Sri Lanka Men’s Carrom Team who won the World Carrom Trophy and the Sri Lanka Women’s Carrom Team who became runners-up at the 5thworld Carrom Tournament. Trophies, medals and certificates were awarded to the winners of the tournament under the patronage of S.R.D. Kalinga Mudali, Senior Professor, University of Kelaniya.
