CDS summoned to appear before CID again
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and former Navy Commander Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne had been summoned by the CID for the second time to give a statement over an incident where 11 youths disappeared from Colombo in 2008 and 2009.
CID sources said the CDS had been informed in writing to appear before the CID on Tuesday (27) morning for allegedly harbouring Lieutenant Commander Prasad Hettiarachchi alias Navy Sampath.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne on August 29 ordered the CID to take necessary action to arrest Admiral Wijegunaratne if there is sufficient evidence to prove that he had aided and abetted Navy Sampath, to evade court where the magisterial inquiry into the disappearance of 11 youths was underway. In an earlier occasion, the CID also informed Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, to appear before the CID on September 10. However, the CDS had left for Mexico for official visit without informing the CID

Earlier this month, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court ordered the CID to arrest Admiral Wijegunaratne for harbouring Lieutenant Commander Prasad Hettiarachchi and to produce him in Court.
