SLFPERS NOT INTERESTED IN CONTESTING UNDER SLPP

Agroup of electorate organisers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) have told Agricultur­e Minister and the General Secretary of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) that they did not prefer to contest the forthcomin­g elections under the Lotus Bud symbol of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). Party organisers Roshan Gunarathna (Nuwara Eliya), Amarasiri Kuruwage (Rathgama), Nalin Gunawarden­e (Kantale) and Sarath Sandanayak­e (Ratnapura) who had met the Minister at his residence

They had especially expressed their displeasur­e over Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who was a long standing member of the SLFP obtaining the membership of the SLPP

in Colombo hav contended that contesting under the Lotus Bud symbol would liquidate the SLFP and there wouldn’t be a future for the party eventually.

Bandaranai­ke.

Replying to them Mr. Amaraweera had said that they could contest the forthcomin­g elections under the hand symbol of the SLFP and test the waters.

He had said that the party should use the oncoming elections to gauge the public opinion on the party.
