Relief to those who borrowed less than Rs 300,000

People who had borrowed less than Rs. 300,000 from State Banks but failed to settle would be granted relief, sources said yesterday.

“These are people who had borrowed less than Rs. 300,000 but not settled them,” an official said.however, the official did not elaborate on the course of action to be taken. “The Government took the decision to grant relief to the poor people who had taken loans less than Rs. 300,000,” the official said. It is reported that the Cabinet approval had been granted for this proposal which was submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. “The Government has decided to withdraw the names of people from the blacklists, who have borrowed less than Rs. 300,000 as the Government believes generally larger amounts are taken by rich people,” the source said.
