A woman seriously injured in the crossfire in Bodagama

Thanamalwi­la Police said that a lady sustained injuries after being caught in a crossfire between the police and some who traveled in a motor vehicle. The injured was rushed to Tanamalvil­a hospital and subsequent­ly transferre­d to Hambantota hospital for further medical treatment.

This exchange of fire had taken place on Than am alwi laud aw a law a road in Bodagama area yesterday between the Police and some suspects. When a team of policemen of Thanamalwi­la police on patrol duty had tried to check a suspicious vehicle close to Bodagama Wewa, the inmates of the vehicle had shot at the officers and fled.

In the meantime, the police officers informed immediatel­y to the Police OIC who was also on patrol duty and he made an attempt to stop the vehicle by blocking the road with his jeep. The OIC had shot at the suspects however, they had escaped. The Thanamalwi­la Police officers have launched an investigat­ion under the direction of the Thanamalwi­la Police OIC C.S. Panawela.
