CATHOLICS SLAM PLAN TO REMOVE SEX FROM BIRTH CERTIFICATES
The Catholic Church has hit out at plans to remove a baby’s sex from birth certificates claiming it would cause confusion in a number of areas of life DAILY MAIL, 24 NOVEMBER 2018- The Catholic Church has hit out at plans to remove a baby’s sex from birth certificates claiming it would cause confusion in a number of areas of life.
The Perth Archdiocese has called for a paper submitted by the Western Australia Law Reform Commission seeking to remove sex from birth certificates to be redrafted.
The church claims it discriminates against religion and parents who wish to have their child’s sex on their birth certificate.
The paper - Review of Western Australian legislation in relation to the recognition of a person’s sex, change of sex or intersex status - sets out a number of reasons why the commission believes sex should be struck from birth certificates.
However Perth Archdiocese’s Rev. Joseph Parkinson is leading calls to redraft the paper in a submission to the commission, Perth Now reported.
