DHARMASIRI GAMAGE COMMEMORATION ON DEC. 4
Prof. Kolitha Banu Dissanayake will deliver the keynote address will be held at the Public Library Auditorium in Colombo on December 4 at 2.30 pm.
A special commemoration programme to honour distinguished wordsmith and filmmaker the late Dharmasiri Gamage who passed away 14 years ago, will be held at the Public Library Auditorium in Colombo on December 4 at 2.30 pm. In his long and illustrious career spanning four and a half decades, the late Dharmasiri Gamage played a variety of crucial roles as a respected journalist, lyricist, film, radio and theatre-opera script writer, film director and author of rare books on environment and travel. Prof. Kolitha Banu Dissanayake will deliver the keynote address at the event titled ‘Sihina Nelum Mala’. Bandara Eheliyagoda will anchor the show which will be assorted with songs by Dr. Nanda Malini, Dr. Victor Rathnayake, Visharada Deepika Priyadarshani, Visharada Jagath Wickremasinghe, Keerthi Pasqual, Janaka Wickremasinghe and others. Gamage who was born on October 4, 1939, breathed his last on September 19, 2004. He first wrote a song for veteran GSB Rani Perera in 1955, and later wrote hundreds of popular songs for various singers. As a film director he made ‘Yasa Isuru’ in 1982 and ‘Pooja’ in 1986 and wrote scripts for several movies like Siripala Saha Ran Menika, Eya Dan Loku Lamayek, Sarungalae, Sakunthala, Hulawali, Adarawanthayo, Thilaka Saha Thilaka, Apeksha, Amme Mata Samawenna and others.
