UNP TO ORGANISE PROTEST MARCH FROM COLOMBO TO KATARAGAMA, KANDY

- BY YOHAN PERERA

The United National Party (UNP) together with several civil organisations had organised a protest march from Colombo to Kataragama and Kandy, UNP Spokesman Harin Fernando said yesterday.

Mr. Fernando told a press conference that the protest march “Yukthiye Yatrawa’ will begin on Saturday December 1, 2018 from Colombo and will reach Kataragama. Religious ceremonies will be held at Kataragama Devale.

The protesters will meet people in Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, Beruwala, Ambalangoda, Matara, Tangalle and Hambantota. The protest march will then proceed towards Tissamaharama, Moneragala and reach Kandy via Mahiyangana. “The march would be a peaceful one giving priority to religious observances while there would be a mobile Pirith Mandapa as a special feature,” Mr. Fernando said.

Mr. Fernando denied that he insulted the UNP leaders by stating at a Bala Mandala meeting that it is better to appoint a 55-year- old as the Prime Minister rather than appointing a 74-year-old to the post. “I did not mean to insult anyone,” he said.
