14,400 Samurdhi officers to be confirmed

The Ministry of Housing and Social Welfare has taken steps to confirm 14,400 Samurdhi Development Officers in their posts. Minister of Housing and Social Welfare, Wimal Weerawansa told the media that the first batch of 7,000 officers would receive permanent appointments today at the Sugathadasa Stadium with President Mathripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa as the chief guests.

Mr. Weerawansa said the Samurdhi Development Department had 27,000 employees and that 14,000 of them had not been confirmed in their posts. He said successive governments for a long time had implemented plans to resolve the issue but had failed.
