Funds to Temple Trees must also be stopped: JVP

- BY AJITH SIRIWARDANA / YOHAN PERERA

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday all operations in Temple Trees should also be stopped, after the motion to curtail expenditure to the Office of Prime Minister was passed in Parliament. He told parliament that neither Mahinda Rajapaksa nor Ranil Wickremesinghe had a right to spend public funds as all of them were considered as MPS after passing the No-confidence Motion on November 14.

“If the motion was brought in with good intention to prevent public funds being spent illegally, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should also leave Temple Trees. There is no Prime Minister in the country and all are MPS now,” he said.

Commenting on Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe’s statement that the current political crisis should be resolved in agreement with the President, Mr. Dissanayake said the JVP was of the opinion that a crisis created through a political coup could not be resolved through discussion and peacefully. He said the struggle of the JVP was to urge the President to act according to the Constitution.

“The current impasse can only be resolved through the Constitution. When the No-confidence Motion is passed against the government, the President should appoint a new government. He cannot question the motions passed in legislature,” he said. He said the continuous violation of the Constitution was only dragging along the crisis.
