DOUBLE-CAB PLUNGES INTO CANAL; DRIVER DROWNED

A double-cab driver was drowned last morning when his vehicle plunged into the ZD Canal, which branches off from the Maduruoya Reservoir.

The driver had drowned when a double cab had veered off the road at the 5km milepost in Aralaganwila and fallen into the ZD Canal, the main irrigation canal which begins from the Maduruoya Reservoir in the early hours of the last morning.

The deceased Pathirage Saman Dissanayake (43) was a resident of Ampara. Police officers that arrived on the scene within minutes of the incident recovered the vehicles and the body of the driver with the help of STF divers. Investigations revealed that he had been on his way back after attending a funeral in Kegalle area.

OIC Aralaganwila Police IP K.P.W. Premalal is conducting further investigations on the instructions of SP Tissa Lal De Silva, and SSP Dhammika Weerasekara.
