Rains likely to ease

Rains that lashed the island are expected to ease during next two days, the Meteorolog­y Department said yesterday.

Rains of up to 75mm were forecast in the Northern, Eastern, North-central and Uva Provinces.

Misty conditions were expected in some places in the Central, Sabaragamu­wa and Western Provinces during the morning.

“There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundersho­wers with wind speeds of up to 80kmph,” the Department said and added that several areas have had light showers including Puttalam and Moneragala while Padukka had received the highest rainfall of 58.7mm as of last afternoon.
