Man attempting to pass tobacco leaf to detainee fined 5 Lakhs

An individual who attempted to pass a tobacco leaf to a detainee in the remand cell in the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court when the court was in session was fined Rs.500,000 by Gampaha Additional Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne.

Police arrested him on information received from the prison officers present and he was produced before the magistrate under the Tobacco Tax Ordinance. The suspect was a resident of Doranagoda in Udugampola.

PC 60567 Nishantha Rupasinghe filed plaint against the suspect and made submissions in court.
