Fleeing robber arrested with gold chain worth over 2 lakhs

A robber, who snatched a gold chain worth Rs 221.000 from a 76-year-old woman from Keselwatte, was arrested by the timely interventi­on of two vigilant policemen from the Keselwatte Special Police unit recently.

The two police constables, who were on sentry duty in the area at the time of the incident, had heard the screams of a woman and seeing a person running they had chased and apprehende­d him.

The Keselwatte Special units police officers PC 39542 Dissanayak­e and PC70707 Saman had arrested the suspect with the gold chain weighing around 35 grams. The suspect Abdul Wahab Mohamed Rizvan of No 38 Botale Junction Kaduruwela was arrested for snatching the gold chain of the victim Kandambige Siriyawath­ie Perera aged 76, a resident of St Sebastian Flat

According to the Police the victim had had gone to pluck flowers from a tree near her house suddenly she had felt that someone grabbing her gold chain from behind.

The victim had raised cries and the two constables on sentry duty on hearing the cries and seeing a person running had chased the suspect and apprehende­d him with the gold chain, The suspect was produce before the Colombo Magistrate Court and remanded.
