Two suspects arrested during raid on illicit brewery

A large stock of artificial toddy was seized and two suspects taken into custody by the Madampe Police during a raid on an illegal brewery in the Pambala area.

Police said the suspects had been running the artificial toddy manufacturing den in close proximity to the church to avoid suspicion.

A stock of 20 barrels of toddy, 150 litres of liquid ammonia, 50kilos of sugar and a stock of yeast and sugar had been seized during the raid.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had been carrying on the racket under the pretext of manufacturing coconut treacle for which they had obtained a permit.
