Student drowns in Atabage Oya
The body of the student was discovered by the team of Navy Divers on Saturday. His body was taken to the Nawalapitiya District Hospital for autopsy as there was no Judicial Medical Officer in the Gampola Teaching Hospital
The Pussellewa Police said that one of the six students who went for bathing in the Atabage Oya in the lower part of Sankuwar Estate in Gampola had been drowned.
The body of the student was discovered by the team of Navy Divers on Saturday. The deceased, a resident of Gampola Kandeveediya was identified as Jeyashankar Gajaneshwaran (18).
His body was taken to the Nawalapitiya District Hospital for autopsy as there was no Judicial Medical Officer in the Gampola Teaching Hospital. Dr. A.M. Faizal, Judicial Medical Officer of the Nawalapitiya District Hospital had given a verdict stating the reason for the death was due to drowning. It was revealed during the postmortem conducted by Inquirer into sudden death Wijesiri Dimbulgastenna that the victim had gone for bathing without informing his parents and that the other students had attempted to flee from the area abandoning their friend who drowned.
Further investigations were being conducted by SI Indika Lalith, SI Wasantha Amarasinghe together with PC Liyanage (66197), PC Anura (48831) and PC Kasun (89922) on the instructions of OIC of the Pusellawa Police Station CI Sarath Bandara Palipana.
