The organizers of foreign tour operators have complained to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) that a leading Air Ticketing Company which is situated in Colombo has cheated more than Rs.100 million from foreign tourists while booking air tickets.

This company is said to be more than 40 years old. This fraud had been committed by this company which organizes holiday tours and pilgrimages to the countries such as India, Dubai, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Indonesia without giving tickets to several famous tour organizers, charitable institutions and some individuals. As a result, they are unable to organize foreign tours in December.

In the circumstances, air tickets have to be ordered and reserved through companies which have got the IATA membership as there is no proper procedure to purchase air tickets by small scale companies or tour organisres under the present set up.

In the meantime, one foreign tour agent said that a person who was involved in this racket has disappeared and the company is embroiled in a chaotic situation.
