Cargills launches locally produced butter and cheddar cheese

Cargills Quality Dairies (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Cargills Group launched locally produced Kotmale Butter and Kotmale Cheddar Cheese in Sri Lanka recently.

The product launch took place in Colombo last week with presence of top officials of Cargills Group including the Cargills Quality Dairies (Pvt) Ltd.

The products are manufactur­ed in Sri Lanka at world class facilities and under strict hygiene conditions. In focusing on freshness and nutrition of the products, the products are also manufactur­ed with 100 percent pure fresh milk collected from local farmers across the country.

The products are also accessible for all Sri Lankan consumers through competitiv­e and affordable prices, which is over 50 percent below the prices of imported cheese and butter products in the market.

According to Kotmale Dairy Milk, Chief Operating Officer, Suranga Wijesundar­a, Cargills has invested around Rs 6 billion in Kotmale since its acqustion of the company in 2010.

Cargills collects 150,000 litres of dairy from 15,000 dairy farmers on a daily basis at their six collecting centres in five provinces: Central, North Western, North Central, Western, and Northern. The company has assured its farmer network of a steady income through the purchase of fresh milk.

Cargills’ dairy business is driven by Kotmale and Magic brands. The company aims to bring Sri Lanka into self-sufficienc­y in dairy and towards the health and nourishmen­t of Sri Lanka with continuous investment­s.

Wijesundar­a noted that Cargills’ dairy operations have led Sri Lanka to save US$25 million foreign exchange annually.

Over past several years, the brands : Kotmale and Magic have won wide range of appeal for its distinctiv­e product range which includes fresh and flavoured milk, ice cream, set and stirred yoghurt, drinking yoghurt, cheese, and fresh cream. Each of these products has been consistent­ly defined by nutrition, freshness, and affordabil­ity.

The officials of the company noted that the best practice of Cargills has translated into success as its brands gained market leadership in the dairy ice cream category.

Wijesundar­a announced that the Magic brand recently has become the most valuable ice cream brands in Sri Lanka translatin­g the company’s best practice into success.

Cargills dairy business is underpinne­d by a philosophy that aims to strengthen­ing farming communitie­s.
