LIFETIME ACHIEVEMEN­T AWARD FOR THUSITHA MUNINDRADA­SA

Senior Engineer Thusitha Munindrada­sa was conferred with the Lifetime Achievemen­t Award at the recent State Television Awards ceremony in recognitio­n of his pioneering role in the country’s television sector. Thusitha who studied at Kotte Ananda Shashthral­aya and Pannipitiy­a Dharmapala Vidyalaya later qualified in Engineerin­g at the Moratuwa University and Radio Engineerin­g Institute, UK. He also mastered the Japanese and German languages. He joined the SLBC in the early seventies as a technical officer and also proved himself as an announcer. He was a member of the first batch to join the ITN where he excelled in diverse spheres like lighting, camera, editing and also groomed youngsters to the engineerin­g section. He joined Rupavahini in 1982 as the lighting and technical director and rose to hold several top positions in the engineerin­g and technical divisions. He was the lighting director of the first tele drama ‘Lahiru Dahasak’ on Rupavahini and later contribute­d to tele dramas like Palingu Menike, Yashoraway­a and others. Though he retired in 2001, he continued to share his knowledge with the younger generation by publishing comprehens­ive books on his pet subjects.
