“Religious leaders should not get involved in politics”
Religious leaders should not get involved in politics and get into controversies, UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake said yesterday.
It is only when religious leaders get involved and advise politicians that they have to be given allowances
He was referring to recent reports that said Venerable Dambara Amila Thera had drawn an allowance of Rs.95,000 from Litro Gas for some time.
“Religious leaders should not get involved in politics and provide advise or assistance to political leaders. It is only when they get involved and advise politicians that they have to be given allowances. Does the US President or the Indian Prime Minister seek advise from religious leaders? Sri Lankan politicians should follow these principles,” the MP said.
