Notorious robber arrested with stolen jewellery

A suspect wanted in connection with a series of robberies in several areas of the country was arrested and a stock of stolen jewellery recovered by the Boralesgamuwa Police during a raid in the Bellanwila area.the motorcycle used by the suspect was seized during the raid.

Investigations revealed that the 35-year-old suspect from Karandeniya area was married to a woman in Yasopura in Boralesgamuwa and that he was the father of two children. The suspect was frequenting Boralesgamuwa area when the police arrested him on suspicion to find that he was not in possession of any document for the motorcycle. Police questioned him at length to find that he had stolen the motorcycle during a musical show in Karandeniya area and that the ignition switch of the motorcycle had been changed.

Under interrogation he revealed his involvement in robberies in several areas in the country. Police said he had waylaid and robbed the pedestrians of their cash and jewellery and stolen two motorcycles and a trishaw.

A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Unit SI Muditha Dalpathadu, carried out the raid on the instructions of the OIC Boralesgamuwa Police IP Priyantha De Silva, and ASP Prasad Ranasinghe and SP Saman Sigera.
