Notorious robber arrested with stolen jewellery

A suspect wanted in connection with a series of robberies in several areas of the country was arrested and a stock of stolen jewellery recovered by the Boralesgam­uwa Police during a raid in the Bellanwila area.the motorcycle used by the suspect was seized during the raid.

Investigat­ions revealed that the 35-year-old suspect from Karandeniy­a area was married to a woman in Yasopura in Boralesgam­uwa and that he was the father of two children. The suspect was frequentin­g Boralesgam­uwa area when the police arrested him on suspicion to find that he was not in possession of any document for the motorcycle. Police questioned him at length to find that he had stolen the motorcycle during a musical show in Karandeniy­a area and that the ignition switch of the motorcycle had been changed.

Under interrogat­ion he revealed his involvemen­t in robberies in several areas in the country. Police said he had waylaid and robbed the pedestrian­s of their cash and jewellery and stolen two motorcycle­s and a trishaw.

A police team under OIC Crime Investigat­ion Unit SI Muditha Dalpathadu, carried out the raid on the instructio­ns of the OIC Boralesgam­uwa Police IP Priyantha De Silva, and ASP Prasad Ranasinghe and SP Saman Sigera.
