The Colombo Municipality is set to expand its online payment platform to include property taxes, levies for trade licence fees, stamp fees, tax on business premises and entertainment taxes.

While an online platform has already been established for residents to pay rates, book playgrounds and halls coming under the purview of the CMC, the new system will facilitate all payments to the CMC. The project, done in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is to be online soon.

Officials said the project would ensure transparency at the municipality while enhancing the efficiency of the existing system as a significant part of the municipality was from taxes.

KOICA representative Lee Dong Ku, during a seven-day inspection tour, promised Colombo Mayoress Roy Senanayake, the necessary support to establish similar systems in the future.
