Govt. MPS won’t attend today’s sessions: Dinesh
Says Speaker holds sessions according to the law of the jungle
Government MPS will not attend today’s parliamentary sessions because it is being held unconstitutionally, MP Dinesh Gunawardane said yesterday.
He said they arrived at this decision at the government parliamentary group meeting held last morning.
“Speaker Karu Jayasuriya continues to hold sessions according to the law of the jungle. He is not following even the standing orders.the Speaker has prepared an agenda on his own and has included a no-confidence motion in it. Therefore, we won’t attend the session,” the MP told a news briefing.
He said the stay order issued by the Court of Appeal has only restricted the functioning of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of ministers but it did not mean that the ministers or the prime minister had been removed from their posts.
