Man, who hacked mother-inlaw, arrested

A man, who had hacked his mother-in-law and caused her grievous injuries in the Dahagoniya area on Sunday, was arrested by the Medagama Police yesterday.

The injured woman had been rushed to the Medagama Hospital and had later been transferred to the Monaragala General Hospital for further treatment. The victim’s son- in-law, who had come home drunk on Sunday evening, had started to quarrel with his wife. When the victim tried to intervene she was hacked in the head by him using a kitchen knife.

The suspect who had fled the scene following the incident was taken into custody by the police shortly after from the same area.
