Former Chairman of Ambalangoda UC passes away
G. M. S. De Silva, the former Chairman of the Ambalangoda Urban Council has passed away at the age of 85.
Mr. De Silva was the father of three sons including specialist Dr. Manilka Sumanathilaka.
A dedicated public servant rendered his services voluntarily refusing his official vehicle and travelling expenses by using his own vehicle. During his term of office Mr. De Silva held the positions of Chairman, deputy Chairman as well as leader of the opposition at the Ambalangoda Urban Council.
During his tenure as Chairman he worked tirelessly for the development of the Ambalangoda town. For his dedicated service the Ambalangoda Urban Council had the honour of being named ‘the best Urban council in the country’ from 1987 to 1993. Under Mr. De Silva’s Chairmanship the Ambalangoda Urban Council was once again recongnised as ‘the best Urban council in the southern region’ from 1991 to 1993 and once again in the year 2003.
