Former Chairman of Ambalangod­a UC passes away

G. M. S. De Silva, the former Chairman of the Ambalangod­a Urban Council has passed away at the age of 85.

Mr. De Silva was the father of three sons including specialist Dr. Manilka Sumanathil­aka.

A dedicated public servant rendered his services voluntaril­y refusing his official vehicle and travelling expenses by using his own vehicle. During his term of office Mr. De Silva held the positions of Chairman, deputy Chairman as well as leader of the opposition at the Ambalangod­a Urban Council.

During his tenure as Chairman he worked tirelessly for the developmen­t of the Ambalangod­a town. For his dedicated service the Ambalangod­a Urban Council had the honour of being named ‘the best Urban council in the country’ from 1987 to 1993. Under Mr. De Silva’s Chairmansh­ip the Ambalangod­a Urban Council was once again recongnise­d as ‘the best Urban council in the southern region’ from 1991 to 1993 and once again in the year 2003.
