X MAS MARKET

It was a pleasure as it always is to be a guest at Kamini Witharane’s X mas market of hand embroidered items, designed and created especially for the X mas season. Kamini’s pupils had worked hard to achieve the perfection demanded by their teacher, who has passed on her talent and craft by teaching it for many a decade.

There was a wide range of items; table cloths, cushion covers, table mats, hand towels, pillowcases, pot holders , breakfast tablemat sets and many more. I was so happy when the pupil who welcomed us said that reading this column has helped them to improve their English. It was the best start to the morning for me to know that these young girls not only read this column but have been helped by it too. I missed the presence of the late Kalindi, Kamini’s daughter who worked hard by her mother’s side and was the live wire behind these exhibitions. But her husband and son were there to support Kamini who must be congratulated on the exhibits done under her expert guidance.
