PARENTING THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

BE A SAIL...NOT A FLAG

-

Flags are indeed proud emblems of society, they are used in all manners of activities, they represent a school, a country, a people and even a race. But a flag by itself is nothing unless it's given importance, it waits to be waved when the time is right. Whilst a sail, with the right gust of wind, takes on a life of its own, its steers the ship needling the rider to go forth where it demands it. The sail takes control. Teach your children to not be mere flags to be waved by others, to be told by what others need to be done. Instead teach them to be sails of their own destiny. To take control over their lives, to put in the effort, to reach for the impossible and to be in control. A flag has no direction, it bends and sweeps at the bearer's discretion, whilst a sail takes over it captures the wind and leads the way. Encourage our children to embrace what they have been taught and to strive harder, to bend to no man but to reach for the stars instead.
