Former DIG Nalaka de Silva re-remanded
Former DIG of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) Nalaka de Silva and an Indian National Mersily Thomas who were arrested by the CID over the alleged assassination plot on President Maithripala Sirisena and some other VVIPS was yesterday ordered to be further remanded till December 11 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Court.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake, the CID informed the Magistrate IGP Pujith Jayasundara had given two statements regarding the matter and the statements revealed that a person in France had given the information about the assassination
CID also informed Court that it had received some information regarding a person who had a link with TID officials and the particular person is currently in the Welikada prison
plot to the IGP. The CID also informed Court if necessary it would record another statement from the IGP.
Earlier, the CID informed Court that it had received a report from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) regarding Mersily Thomas.
CID also informed Court that it had received some information regarding a person who had a link with TID officials and the particular person is currently in the Welikada prison. CID also mentioned that the particular person is a famous drug dealer. Accordingly the Magistrate ordered the CID to record a statement from the particular person.
Counsel Ajith Pathirana appearing on behalf of DIG Nalaka de Silva informed the Court that the arrest of his client had been made contrary to law.
