Brunt of political impasse affects businesses: Former CM of EP
Former Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Zeinulabdeen Nazeer Ahmad said that the current political impasse and uncertainty are gradually taking a toll on the business activities in the country.
In a statement on contemporary politics Ahmad who is also the Deputy Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) said that a fear psychosis prevailed among the business community whether the economy of the country would face a crisis as the development activities had come to a grinding halt and productivity had dwindled. Hence, the investors were immensely perturbed, he said. “Above all, the people in the country have lost confidence and the officials implementing plans and projects are hesitating to take orders, fearing future political vendetta’ he lamented. As a whole, the development in the country has come to a standstill. Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs and investors are in a quandary as to whether the country would face bankruptcy like various other countries across the world while certain political hooligans are ruining the country, he further said in his communique.
